Whilst the current situation gave us no option but to postpone ‘The Power of Positive Relationships’ event until November, never has the conversation been more important as it is now. Red Harbour hosted a free Webinar on Wednesday 17th June to keep this conversation a priority.
Providing a safe and trusting learning environment for a child can have a significant influence on their growth and development. This will be vital as children return to school after a 4 month period of absence with little contact with anyone outside their home. As educators, we can help children through this transition period to enable them to learn how to develop and maintain relationships again that will not only benefit them on returning to school but also throughout their lives.
We were delighted to have Bruce Adamson talk about the Human Rights framework to support decisions for the children who will need particular consideration. Maureen McAteer looking at creating a safe environment for children, young people and staff to thrive in. She also shared experience from Barnardo’s service delivery, highlighting the film they recently produced in partnership with Public Health Scotland. Finally, Eileen Prior considered the concerns from parents navigating lockdown and the return to school.
The event provided an opportunity for plenty of discussion and the feedback was extremely positive, proving the importance of positive relationships in the return to school to provide a safe environment for our children.
